Veggies, Week 11

Yes, I skip week 10 because I was away that week. This week our bag was heavy (thanks Tracy for carrying it all the way to my house!) with beautiful stuff: corn, tomatoes (four huge beefsteaks), new red potatoes, green peppers, lettuce, egg plant, cucumbers and onions. These are all wonderful for grilling, I'm thinking skewers with shrimp and peaches....... Well, after a week away I got back to find my basil had a wonderful time, made lots of leaves and is almost ready to bloom . So this means it's time for pesto! Last night I made Whole grain linguine with pesto and white wine smoked oysters sauce. Yes, it was as yummy as it sounds and as simple to make. I can see this as a winter dish, with the white wine sauce replaced by a creamy garlic and white wine sauce (can't skip the wine, no matter the season) . I also started an experiment: saving basil leaves in freezer bags for winter-time pesto. Last winter we bought pesto from Costco. but I find it too heavy for my taste. Maybe it's the nuts (I don't put any in my pesto), or the Parmesan (I can't believe I'm saying this - you know with my motto 'the more cheese the better') or the olive oil they use to make it, I'm not sure, but I think I like my pesto best.
