Oppose the MTA proposed service reductions to the MARC and Commuter Bus systems!

Issue: On October 16, 2008 the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) announced that due to budget reductions, some MARC (Maryland Area Regional Commuter) Train and Commuter Bus services are proposed for elimination, effective on January 12, 2009 or sooner.

What can you do? MTA will hold public hearings throughout the State to receive public comments on these proposals. The public is encouraged to provide input regarding the proposed modifications. Considering going to a hearing and/or writing a comment. Please spread the word and consider signing a (forthcoming) written statement to Governor Martin O’Malley and Transportation Secretary John D. Porcari regarding MTA proposed service reductions.

Why: It affects a lot of people commuting to Hopkins. It is also a matter of principle. We need to let MTA know that we support public transportation, and we will fight for the right to public transportation. We cannot support building a new highway (the InterCounty Connector) at the cost of $ 2.445 Billion), when the budget does not allow for fixing the existing infrastructure and supporting public transport. Lot of these cuts will force people to drive to work because there is no alternative.
