I'm sure some of you know I am the lady with the clothes line in the back yard. I actually use it: on most Saturdays I would have clothes hanging there. How I got do to this? It took the realization of how much energy our drier uses; I was doing work in the back yard when I walked by the electricity meter and I saw the little red thing going round and round with amazing speed. That was the "Wow, we're using a lot of electricity right now'. I went inside to see what appliances were running at the time (fridge, and drier). I put it on being the drier that drains all that power off the grid. It also happened that I told Tim about it, he bought some clothes line and hung it between two perfectly well spaced trees (that, btw, Tim planted!). Pic to come. Now I save at least one drier load a week, more in the summer when the towels and sheets dry really quickly (well, unless there are thunderstorms that hit just as you're thinking of taking the almost dry clothes off the line. Oh well!). Of course, sometimes, if I leave things hung overnight, I find some (especially Tim's white T-shirts, or our off-white satin sheets) artfully painted by a bird, if you get my meaning.
Anyway, the point of this blog was to tell you about Project Laundry List. They do a great job of educating prople about this and getting communities that ban (gasp!) clothesline to see the light. Check it out if you'd like to learn more.
