Veggies are here!
The first share from the One Straw Farm CSA is here. I just picked it up and it looks beautiful. This first week we got strawberries (2 little boxes), and a bunch each of the following: rainbow chard, green chard, collard greens, spinach, red leaf lettuce, green leaf lettuce and romaine (Romanian as Tim calls it) lettuce. Tracy and I are splitting one full share this year. This is because last year Tim and I had a full share just the two of us, and we were a bit overwhelmed at times. I guess we'll manage next week when Tracy will be away so we get to have the whole share to ourselves.
Well, my resolve is to document every week what I've done with the veggies. The obvious things this week will be salads. The dark greens I saute in vegetable oil, garlic and red pepper flakes. I cook the whole thing (including the tougher stems), just chop it bite size. If I have some, I add tomatoes cubed, as they look pretty on the dark green of the veggies. This would be a great side to fish and rice (or pasta), like it'll be tonight, at least that's the plan now.
So go get yourself a CSA share (if you can't walk to a Framers' Market) and Happy Eats!
